Permission granted at appeal for a dormer built in Bromley

We are pleased to announce that we have won an appeal against the London Borough of Bromley, which had refused planning permission for a rear dormer roof extension to a house in the north of the borough.

Our clients have built the extension believing it to be permitted development under the General Permitted Development Order. They did not realise that their permitted development rights had been removed by a condition imposed on their estate by the council when it was first built.

As a result, all extensions to the houses in their area need planning permission. Having already built the extension, they were in a pickle. It was an understandably stressful situation.

They hired an architect to apply to the council for retrospective planning permission, but that application was refused. They then chose to appeal through myplanningappeal.co.uk. They used the £99 case review service to ask our opinion on what they should do next. One of our chartered town planners advised that they appeal the decision. We went on to prepare, submit and manage the appeal and were delighted when the Planning Inspector backed us and allowed the appeal.

It can be difficult to get planning permission for the large, box dormers one sees all over England. In most cases, they are permitted development, but when they are not, councils often refuse planning permission.

If you are running into problems with an existing or proposed loft conversion with dormer windows, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
